The Greatest Story Ever Told
2016. Book design and Typography.
This project’s aim was to gather a complete knowledge of one thing and then make it accessible to the public in the form of a book. I used “The Greatest Story Ever Told”, as told by Neil deGrasse Tyson for the Natural History Magazine in March 1998. I have always admired his ability to explain complex principles in a way that is easier to understand by people with no scientific background, which is why I decided to use something written by him for my book.
I created various minimal illustrations, each of them aiming to clarify ideas expressed in the text by providing a simple, straightforward visual representation of the various concepts. I aimed to use the illustrations and the typography to make these available to people of all ages, without requiring much knowledge on the subject. During the past few years, I realised that many people are scientifically illiterate. Not meaning that they are stupid or they cannot understand scientific principles or theories, but simply that they either don’t know about them or didn’t understand them properly. I think that is a shame because knowing more about science (and particularly astronomy) means knowing more about the world, the universe and ourselves.
